The Volume Calculation View Mode is used to compute the volume of a peak or valley on the surface.  It can also be used to compute the area of any polygonal region.  Click on the surface height map image to define a polyline region around the peak or valley of interest.

The volume above the reference plane is rendered on the 3D view of the surface in red.  The volume above the reference plane is rendered on the 3D view of the surface in blue.

Compute Volume

Clicking this toolbar button will actually perform the volume/area calculation.  Click this button after defining the polyline region around the peak or volume of interest.  A least squares plane is computed through the region of interest.  The volume of the surface both above and below the plane is then calculated and reported.  The 2D area defined by the polyline region is also reported.
