The Particle Counting View mode can be used to quickly compute the area, perimeter, and value of multiple objects (particles) on the surface.  A threshold plane height is defined by dragging the marker on the legend up and down.  This threshold distinguishes "particles" from the background image.  The exact value for the threshold can be entered by double clicking the slider.

In the lower left corner of the dynamic view of the surface the overall statistics for the particle counting is displayed.  The total area of the particles above or below the threshold in engineering units and as a percentage is displayed.  Also, the total volume of the material and the void regions along with their normailized values are displayed in the lower left corner of the viewport.

Above Threshold

Selecting this option tells the software to report particles above the threshold plane.

clip0035

Below Threshold

Selecting this option tells the software to report particles below the threshold plane.

clip0036

Disregard Border Particles

Selecting this option tells the software to not include any particle that touches the surface's edges.  This option is typically used to ignore particles that have only been partially measured.

Minimum Particle Size

If this option is selected, then any particle smaller then the user-defined value is ignored from the results.  Enter the minimum particle size and click the "Apply" button to recompute the particles with this option.
